Solid Oak Floating Shelf Quality – Our shelves are made from high-quality European oak, mostly kiln-dried for stability, durability, and natural character. We also offer a select few in
air-dried oak for a more rustic feel. With solid oak floating shelves at 32mm thick, you can rely on strength and style.

Rustic oak floating shelves with character - Prefer a vintage, textured look? The rustic oak floating shelves feature hand-distressed edges and textured surfaces that evoke centuries-old charm. Ideal for a farmhouse style or to add warmth to contemporary décor.

Light, natural, or dark oak options - Our solid oak floating shelves are available in a curated selection of nine stunning finishes from pale, modern tones to deep, dramatic shades. Each one is carefully hand-finished using premium stains, waxes, and oils that enhance and protect the natural beauty of the wood.

The stains penetrate deep into the grain, creating rich, long-lasting colour, while our protective waxes leave a smooth, velvety feel that ages beautifully over time.

Whether you’re looking for the brightness of light oak floating shelves, the timeless warmth of natural oak floating shelves, or the bold richness of a dark oak finish, every option is designed to highlight the unique character of the wood and complement your space with depth and elegance.

Chunky oak floating shelves - If you’re after a more substantial look, at 32mm, our chunky oak floating shelves feature deep, thicker profiles that bring weight and presence to any wall. They're ideal for showcasing books, statement pieces, or everyday kitchenware with confidence.

Made to measure and fully customisable - Every home is different, which is why our oak floating shelves are available in a wide range of standard lengths and depths. Floating basin & mantel shelves - If you’re looking for something a bit different, add elegance in functional spaces with our oak floating basin shelf, or create a focal point over your fireplace using our solid oak mantels.

Things to consider when buying oak floating shelves

Before choosing your shelf, keep these points in mind:

Wall type

All of our solid oak floating shelves come with high-quality, heavy-duty concealed brackets designed for strength and a clean floating appearance, but it's important to know if you're fixing to plasterboard, masonry, or stud walls.

For solid masonry walls, the included brackets offer excellent support and can typically hold up to 35kg with two fixings (including the weight of the shelf).

For plasterboard walls, we recommend locating and fixing into timber studs wherever possible. If fixing into plasterboard alone, we offer dedicated plasterboard shelves designed specifically for this wall type, that hold up to 20kg. These come with strong, adjustable concealed supports manufactured by Hafele and are paired with Gripit Brown fixings -an innovative plasterboard solution known for its high load capacity.

If you’re unsure about your wall structure or need advice on the best fixings to use, feel free to contact our team—we’re happy to help.

Room setting

Oak works beautifully across a wide range of interiors, from modern minimalism to traditional country homes. Its natural grain and warmth make it a versatile choice for almost any room.

In the living room, oak floating shelves can be styled as open shelving for books, art, and decorative pieces, or used to frame a TV or media unit for a clean, cohesive look.

In the kitchen, they offer a practical and stylish way to store jars, glassware, or utensils while keeping everyday items within easy reach.

For bathrooms, our oak sink shelves are specially finished for moisture resistance, making them perfect for supporting washbasins, toiletries, or mirrors with a sleek, modern edge.

They're also ideal in hallways, bedrooms, and home offices - whether you're displaying plants, storing essentials, or simply adding warmth to your walls, with our wide choice of sizes, finishes, and bespoke options, there's an oak shelf to suit every setting.

Weight load

Weight capacity depends on both wall type and shelf depth. As a general guide, two fixings into a solid wall can support up to 35kg—including the weight of the shelf itself. For plasterboard walls, we recommend a maximum of 20kg across two fixings. The condition of the wall, the depth of the shelf, and how weight is distributed across it can all impact performance.

Used correctly, our oak floating shelves are ideal for holding books, kitchenware, candles, plants, and other everyday items with confidence.

Finish and tone

Rustic? Light? Dark? We offer a variety of finishes—browse light oak floating shelves, natural oak floating shelves, or dark oak floating shelves to match your palette.

Sizing

Starting at just 30cm (1ft), these small oak floating shelves are perfect for narrow alcoves, compact spaces, or subtle styling touches. For a more dramatic look, shelves are available up to 213cm (7ft), ideal for creating a bold feature wall.

We offer a range of standard lengths to suit most spaces, but if you need something more specific, we also craft bespoke sizes. Simply order the next size up and leave a note at checkout with your required length - we’ll cut it to size. If you need a longer shelf, a different depth or something truly bespoke? Oak Floating Shelves

FAQ's

What is a floating oak shelf?

A floating oak shelf is a solid wood shelf that mounts using hidden brackets, giving it a sleek "floating" appearance on your wall.

Are your oak floating shelves made from real oak?

Yes – all of our shelves are crafted from 100% solid European oak. We never use veneers or laminates. We source our timber from trusted sawmills across Europe and have built strong relationships with suppliers who consistently deliver high-quality oak.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. All of our timber comes from FSC or PEFC-certified sources, ensuring it’s responsibly harvested. We also plant more trees than we use - giving back more than we take, read more in our Eco Policy.

Can I use oak floating shelves in a bathroom?

Our standard oak floating shelves are made from solid European oak and are finished with protective oils or waxes that offer some resistance to everyday moisture. However, for use in bathrooms or high-humidity areas, we recommend selecting one of our oak sink basin shelves or contacting us to request a moisture-resistant finish.

These shelves are specially treated to better withstand the humidity and occasional splashes common in bathrooms. If you're planning to install a shelf near a sink or in a steamy environment, let us know - we’ll ensure it’s properly sealed for long-term durability.

What fixings are included?

Our solid oak shelves come with fixings for either solid masonry walls or plasterboard walls, depending on the product you select.

We have products made especially for plasterboard walls, so if you are fixing solely into plasterboard walls, please make sure the product says "for plasterboard walls" in the title.

Yes! Whether you need a small oak floating shelf or an extra-long one, we offer bespoke cuts and finishes. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

What’s the weight limit for these shelves?

The weight capacity depends on both the wall type and the depth of the shelf. As a general rule, two fixings into a solid masonry wall can support up to 35kg, including the weight of the shelf. For plasterboard walls, we recommend a maximum load of 20kg when using appropriate fixings.

Where will the fixings be positioned?

The number of fixings your shelf will have will depend on the length chosen.

  • Shelves under 4ft will come with 2 fixing points.
  • Shelves 4ft-5ft will come with 3 fixing points.
  • Shelves 5.5ft-6ft will come with 4 fixing points.
  • Shelves 6.5-7.5ft will come with 5 fixing points.

Fixings are usually around 5" from each end and then any subsequent fixings evenly spaced between. (This is not guaranteed)

If you need to make sure the fixings are in a suitable position to enable you to fit to timber studs, please get in touch and we will be happy to adjust fixing positions on your order.
