Premium Quality Engineered Oak Flooring
Engineered wood flooring is a premium and practical alternative to solid real-wood oak. Combining layered timber with a solid wood veneer, it can’t be matched in terms of stability. The engineered wood flooring installation cost is also very reasonable, with a choice of widths, finishes, and grades to suit your home. Providing a good level of moisture tolerance, engineered hardwood flooring is a particularly good choice for kitchens and bathrooms

What is Engineered Wood Flooring?
With a softwood or plywood foundation and a real oak top layer, engineered flooring offers greater stability than some of the more expensive natural alternatives. Resistant to contraction and less prone to warping than solid wood, it’s ideal for high-footfall areas such as kitchens, hallways, and open-plan rooms. While costing a little more than laminate or vinyl flooring, engineered wood is made to last for a great return on investment.
Why Choose Engineered Oak Flooring?
Natural Durability
Given the wood veneer coating, engineered timber flooring won’t scratch as easily as the vinyl or laminate alternatives. The veneer finish also means that engineered wooden flooring is typically more durable than solid wood. However, the type of wood and its thickness will have an impact, with oak being a particularly suitable choice for longevity.
Premium Look
With the premium oak veneer top layer, it’s practically impossible to tell the difference between solid and engineered wood flooring. Sourced from reputable sawmills and crafted at our North Yorkshire workshop, engineered oak flooring can be fitted for the desirable wow factor.
Underfloor Heating Compatibility
The multi-ply construction of solid engineered wood flooring means that it can be fitted over the top of your underfloor heating system. Its multi-layered design makes for added stability, effectively limiting the risk of expansion and contraction. So you can enjoy the look and feel of real oak flooring while staying warm all year round.
Optional Refinishing
With a wear layer of at least 3mm, engineered hardwood flooring can be refinished just as regularly as the solid wood variety. However, it’s always best to call in the experts for a full resand and refinish that will have your engineered wood floor looking as good as new.
A Sustainable Choice
With only the top layer made from slow-growing hardwood, engineered timber flooring is an eco-friendly choice. A single log can produce many more square feet of flooring than would be the case for the solid wood alternative. Every part of the timber is put to use, with offcuts powering our biomass system.

Engineered Timber Flooring Installation
Machined to the highest standards and available in a variety of widths, lengths, and thicknesses, engineered wood flooring is quite easy to install. The multi-ply construction means that such engineered hardwood flooring can be floated, nailed, or glued.
Here are some handy installation tips:
- Leave the engineered wood to acclimate for at least one week to minimise the risk of swelling or contraction after installation
- Prepare the subfloor so that it’s clean, dry, and level, fitting a damp-proof membrane to prevent moisture build-up
- Mix and match engineered wood planks of different grains and shades for a finished look that you’re happy with.
Maintaining Your Engineered Oak Floor
The recommended cleaning and maintenance of engineered wood flooring is much the same as for the solid wood variety. Brushed and oiled effects will be quite effective in concealing any scratches, with the wood lacquering also ensuring resistance against any splashes and spills. However, you should give your natural oak engineered flooring a gentle mop and vacuum every few days to prevent the build-up of dust and debris. Care must be taken to avoid any scratches.
Here are some other tips to keep your engineered oak flooring in top condition:
- Immediately wipe up any spills with a dry and slightly moist cloth so that moisture doesn’t get into the joints or edges
- Use a pH-neutral cleaner, diluted according to the instructions
- Maintain good levels of room ventilation and relatively stable humidity to keep the boards from warping.
