Beautifully Made Oak Worktops for the Heart of Your Home
An oak worktop is more than just a surface - it’s a warm, natural centrepiece that brings charm and functionality to your kitchen, utility, or bathroom. Every one of our oak worktops is made to order, allowing you to choose the finish, thickness, and dimensions that work best for your project.
Why Choose Our Oak Worktops?
Made to order in the UK
Every oak worktop is handmade by our skilled craftsmen in our North Yorkshire workshop, using time-honoured techniques and exceptional attention to detail. Because each piece is made to order, we can easily accommodate special requirements - It's all part of our commitment to offering truly personalised, high-quality craftsmanship.
High-quality, full-length staves
We use full-length staves (75–160mm wide) in our made-to-order oak worktops to give a natural, flowing grain across the surface. Ultra-wide staves up to 200mm are also available for a bold, luxurious effect. All our custom worktops are full stave as standard; some pre-made ranges may feature finger-jointed construction instead - this will always be clearly noted on the product listing.
Durable finish options
We use high-performance oil finishes, known for their natural look, ease of application, and long-lasting protection. Choose between unfinished or pre-oiled worktops, depending on your project timeline or needs.
Custom sizes available
Need a specific length, width or depth? No problem. All worktops are cut to order. If your size falls between standard options, just order the next size up and leave a note at checkout. For larger or more complex requests, contact our team for a custom quote.
Sustainably sourced timber
All of the oak we use is responsibly sourced from trusted, certified suppliers - either FSC or PEFC accredited - ensuring it’s harvested with care for both forests and future generations. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we operate with 0% wood waste by repurposing all offcuts and shavings to fuel our biomass boiler, which heats our workshop, showroom, and offices. We also give back by planting more trees than we use, helping to restore and protect woodland across the UK and beyond.
What to Consider When Buying an Oak Worktop
Installation Considerations
Storage before fitting
- Worktops rely on a secure fitting to units to avoid warping, for this reason, it is best to install them as soon as possible. Avoid ordering too early and aim to have it delivered when you are ready to install it.
- When storing for small periods of time, always lay the worktop flat. Leaning your worktops against a wall or storing them vertically can cause the worktop to bend. Keep away from direct heat sources such as radiators, boilers, AGAS and regular direct sunlight
- If you have ordered an unfinished worktop, it is really important to avoid the worktop becoming wet until you have applied a substantial finish and let it cure.
Installation
1. Pick your side - Before you commence installation, make sure you identify which side you want to use for the face and which you use for the back. The face will have less imperfections. As wood is a natural product each side will vary with regards to knots and grain.
2. Sanding (Unfinished worktop only) - Before oiling your worktop, we recommend sanding both sides with 80-grit sandpaper to remove any surface marks or imperfections. For best results, sand the entire surface evenly, then follow up with 120-grit for a beautifully smooth finish that allows the oil to absorb properly.
Note: If you've selected a pre-oiled worktop, this step isn't necessary - the surface has already been professionally sanded and prepared.
3. Oiling (Unfinished worktop or maintenance) - Always oil both the front and back of your worktop before installation to protect against moisture and prevent warping. Begin with the back - vacuum thoroughly and clean the surface to remove dust. Once dry, apply a small amount of oil using a scrub pad, gently massaging it in. Allow it to absorb for a few minutes, then wipe away any excess with a cloth or white pad. Finish with a final wipe within 30 minutes - the surface should feel dry and non-sticky.
Note: Always submerge used cloths in water immediately after use to prevent spontaneous combustion.
4. Expansion and Contraction - Oak worktops are a natural product; therefore, we recommend a 3mm-4mm gap between walls and the worktop when fitting to allow for expansion and contraction.

Maintenance & Everyday Use
Moisture & spills
Avoid exposing your oak worktop to water for at least five days after oiling - or after delivery if pre-finished - to allow the surface to cure fully. During everyday use, wipe up any spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth to prevent staining or water damage. Liquids should never be allowed to sit or pool on the surface.
Heat & contact
Always use heat-resistant mats, trivets, or pan stands - never place hot pots, pans, or trays directly onto your oak worktop. Excessive heat can scorch or damage the finish. Also, avoid prolonged contact with wet items or metal containers (such as tins or cans), as these can cause staining, especially if left on the surface for extended periods.
Cleaning
For regular cleaning, use an all-natural wood-safe cleaner to maintain the finish and protect the wood. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive products, which can strip oils or damage the surface. A damp cloth followed by a dry wipe is ideal for everyday use.
Cutting
Always use a chopping board or butcher's block when preparing food. Cutting directly on your oak worktop can damage the surface, dull your knives, and compromise the protective finish.
Ongoing Maintenance
To maintain the finish and performance of your oak worktop:
- Re-oil once a year using a high-quality worktop oil.
- Lightly sand and reapply oil to any worn or marked area for touch-ups.
Use a high-quality oil for a refreshed look and renewed protection.
Size guide
- Allow for a 20–30mm overhang at the front and exposed edges for aesthetic balance.
- For breakfast bars or seating areas, a 250–300mm overhang is recommended.
- Overhangs greater than 250mm require support (e.g. steel C-channels or additional legs).
Always leave a 3–4mm expansion gap between the worktop and surrounding walls to allow for seasonal movement.

Oak Worktops
FAQ's
Are your oak worktops made from real oak?
Yes – all of our worktops are made from 100% solid European oak. We never use veneers, MDF, or composites. Each board is hand-selected for its natural character, grain definition, and structural integrity, ensuring you receive a high-quality, long-lasting worktop surface.
Do you offer cut-to-size oak worktops?
Yes, we do. If your required length falls between our standard sizes, simply order the next size up and add a note at checkout with your exact measurements. For custom widths, unusual shapes, or more complex requests, just contact us directly-we’re happy to provide a bespoke quote.
Can I use these in bathrooms or utility rooms?
Absolutely. Our sink shelves are a popular choice for bathroom vanities and our worktops are suitable for utility room surfaces. We recommend using a high-quality oil finish to seal the wood and protect it from moisture. As with all timber products, ensure the room is well-ventilated to prevent excessive humidity build-up.
What’s the difference between full-stave and finger-jointed worktops?
Full-stave worktops are constructed from long, continuous planks that run the full length of the surface, creating a seamless and high-end appearance. Finger-jointed worktops use smaller sections of oak joined together, offering a more economical option while still using solid wood.
How should I store my worktop before installation?
Your worktop should be stored flat in a dry, indoor space - never upright or leaning against a wall. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources like radiators or AGAs, as these can cause warping or drying. Ideally, install the worktop as soon as possible after delivery.
How often do I need to oil my oak worktop?
To keep your oak worktop protected and looking its best, we recommend reapplying oil once a year, or more frequently in high-use areas. Maintenance kits are available for re-oiling and spot repairs, helping to preserve the finish and resist moisture over time.
