We all need a little cheering up this year and decorating our homes with a little Christmas sparkle can’t come soon enough. With many of us spending much more time at home over the festive period, 2020’s Christmas decorations are going to be bigger and better than ever before.

If you’ve managed to hold out this long without putting up your Christmas decorations, Santa-style hats off to you. Whether you’ve already decked the halls or if you’re waiting impatiently for 1st December to arrive, take a look at our 5 favourite decoration trends for Christmas 2020.

  1. DIY decorations

With money tight and more time at home due to Christmas parties being cancelled, making your own decorations is going to be a huge trend this year.

Some of our favourites include turning your kids’ old hula hoops into a stunning wreath for your front door and making unique ornaments with miniature embroidery hoops and old Christmas jumpers. You could even make a gorgeous garland for your fireplace mantel by stringing the embroidery hoops together.

  1. Nostalgic decorations

We’re all craving some comfort this year, which is why colourful Christmas lights and twinkling tinsel are back in. So dig out those boxes at the back of the attic and drape your tree with a few retro pieces of tinsel.

  1. Neon lights

More light and colour? Yes, please. Neon is no longer restricted to commercial-size signs. This Christmas, if you want to make sure your tree is on trend, add a few neon stars to your normal Christmas decorations.

The contrast of having modern neon lights on top of natural oak floating shelves or solid oak beams, is a really funky way to bring your Christmas theme bang up to date.

  1. Pop art

Think bright, colourful and playful ornaments that make you smile every time you see them. Pop art is one of Christmas 2020’s top trends and for good reason; it’s all about fun. Think shimmering baubles in the shape of a packet of crayons and Santa on a scooter (these are some of the decorations John Lewis are stocking on this theme this year). What’s not to love?

  1. Front door decorations

This year, we’re going all out to decorate the front of our houses to cheer up our local area. Whether it’s a simple wreath on your front door or a full-on light display. Bringing a bit of sparkle to your street is going to be this year’s top trend.

Send us in your pictures…

We’d love to see how you’re all decorating your homes this year. And to share a little festive cheer, we would like to publish some of our favourites on our website. So send us in photos of your Christmas decorations to info@traditionalbeams.com with the subject ‘Christmas decorations’. We can’t wait to see what you’ve done!
