Our Rustic Oak Mantel with corbels is the perfect addition to your room and will add heaps fo character. Distressed edges and textured surfaces gives the appearance of a time worn, centuries old rustic oak mantel.
Corbels are supplied with keyhole brackets machined into the back. We position the keyhole vertically hence they need to be fitted before the beam.
The corbels are approximately 140mm high x 140mm wide x 90mm deep.
Each beam is supplied with concealed shelf supports capable of supporting your beam with ease. Pre drilled holes are professionally drilled into the back of your beam to ensure a clean and crisp finish. Fixings are positioned on the smallest side of the beam so that they fit comfortably with the corbels. The fittings provided can be fitted into brick, stone or breeze block walls. They can also be fixed to stud walls where timber uprights can be located.
The fittings that come supplied are suitable for use on brick, stone, and breeze block walls. If you have a stud wall, then they can be fixed to this as long as timber uprights can be located. A set of fitting instructions come with our all of our beams. Please note: The back of the beam is left unfinished.
What you need to know!
Please be aware as oak is a natural product, each piece does vary with regards to: cracks, knots, colour and grain pattern. Beams sizes are approximate to +/- 5mm. Some beams may have small areas of pin holing which further adds to the rustic effect, we will treat these beams with anti infestation solution. All of our oak beams are well air dried ensuring minimal movement once installed in your home. As your beam adjusts to your room temperature further cracks may appear only adding to the character. This is nothing to worry about. Please note that none of the above can be treated as defects.
Oak Beams are a combustible material. It is important the the beam is positioned a safe distance away from stoves, flues and other heat sources in line with building and HETAS regulations. Installing a beam to close to a heat source may cause excessive cracking and be unsafe.

Oak Beams are a combustible material and are not fire treated. For this reason it is important that beams are installed at a safe distance away from the stove and flue pipe as per HETAS and building regulations.
Can I fit my beam straight away?
We advise letting your beam to acclimatise to room temperature for around 2 weeks prior to installation. It should be taken out of the packaging while doing this to let it breathe.
How do I keep my oak beam looking at it’s best?
You will not need to apply any additional finish to your beam when you receive it. Your beam may dull down slightly with age. To keep your beam looking new you can apply a small amount of wax polish or danish oil. Do not use cleaning products on the beams.
Will my beam crack once it’s installed?
Your beam may already have surface cracks which are to be expected as oak is a natural product. Once installed in a central heated house further cracks may develop which is considered completely normal and part of the charm. We recommend storing your beam for 2 weeks in your house prior to installation. Please also remove the beam from the box while it is acclimatising to the room. If installing above a wood burning stove we recommend gradually increasing the temperature slowly over a period of 2 weeks or so which will minimise movement.
Which side is the concealed bracket holes positioned?
Unless otherwise stated we drill the holes to accept the concealed brackets/fixings in the largest face. For example a 5.5”x3.5” beam will have the holes machined in a 5.5” side. We can of course machine the holes in the smaller side. Just add a note in the checkout confirming your requirements. Beams with corbels are often the opposite way around.
Can I fit my beam to a plasterboard wall?
It is possible to fit your beam to a plasterboard wall if you can locate the timber uprights however it is best to fit your beam to a brick or breeze block wall. If this isn’t possible, we would recommend a beam no larger than 5.5″x2.5″. Plasterboard screws can be used in conjunction with keyhole brackets machined into the back of the beam. We can leave the beams without any pre-drilled holes so that you can add these on site in your preferred location if you wish.
Can I fit my shelf to a plasterboard wall?
We now have a range of shelves available that come complete with fixing suitable for plasterboard walls between 9-15mm thick. Shelves suitable for plasterboard walls will say this is the product title.
Can you guarantee the beam/shelf will look like the pictures advertised?
As oak is a natural product is is impossible for colours to be a complete match each time. Oak also varies in regards to knots, grains and cracks. Each piece is unique to you and your home.
I don’t want any cracks!
Although you could specify for us to select a beam with no cracks, we can not guarantee this. It depends on the stock we have available. If we do find a beam with no cracks, we can not guarantee that it will not crack once installed. It is typical for air-dried beams to crack and move slightly overtime. If you are looking for a beam that does not crack at all then take a look at our kiln dried oak beam.
Are the beams/shelves waterproof?
No, the wax and stains we use are not waterproof. Coasters should be used when placing cups or vases on our products to avoid marks and stains. Any spillage should be wiped away immediately.
Everything we manufacturer is professionally finished in-house using only the finest products. We achieve this fantastic range with wood stains which penetrate deep into the wood followed by a top coat of wax polish for protection.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee exact colour matches to existing furniture. Please use these colour samples as a guide only, as oak is a natural product colour variation can be expected.
The following swatch provides a great example of how unfinished oak can vary in colour.
