How To Make Your Home Feel Bright And Cheerful Despite The Rainy Weather
by Rebecca Armstrong

So far, summer 2021 has been unseasonably wet. While the sun has recently given us some rays of hope of warmer days and (hopefully) weeks to come, making sure your home is bright and cheery enough to shine through even the darkest, gloomiest days can help you feel a whole load better when the rain is plummeting down outside.
House plants aren’t just for 2020
Adding greenery to your home can instantly revive a tired space. In 2020, house plant sales soared, as we all tried to bring the calming tranquility of nature into our living rooms during Covid chaos.
House plants are still more popular than ever before, as they are a really simple way to enjoy the beauty of nature from the comfort of our sofa (essential in a British summer).
If you are wondering about which house plants would be suitable for your home, take a look at our last blog for some inspiration.
Add bright colours to your oak fireplace mantel
We always talk about how great it is to decorate your oak fireplace mantel for the season. In summer, it’s all about taking inspiration from those bright, vibrant colours that nature is treating us to and using them to brighten the inside of our homes.
A colourful vase filled with seasonal flowers, perfectly placed on your oak fireplace beam, is always a good place to start. From there, add candle holders in complementing colours and maybe even a painting resting against your chimney breast.
Festoon your fireplace with a garland of fairy lights or fake flowers and you have a display that will keep you feeling cheerful even on the gloomiest summer days.
Make your wood-burning stove a stunning focal point
Even though it has been wet and rainy, it’s probably still a little too warm for most of us to consider using our wood-burning stoves. In the summer, why not clean out your stove and add a dried or fake flower display inside, to make your stove a focal point in the room once again.
Alternatively, you could place a garland of LED lights in your stove (or candles) and let their twinkling lights cheer up your room on the cooler, wetter summer evenings. Just remember to remove them again before your chimney sweep arrives to clean your fire for the winter!
We would love to see your oak fireplace beam display…
