Use oak beams to make your house a home
by Freddie Armstrong

As August nears an end and autumn approaches, it’s time to think about cosying up your home for the long, dark winter nights that lie ahead. But before you awake your winter wardrobe from hibernation and put on those wooly jumpers, it’s time to take a look at how oak beams can help to create that snuggly, homely feeling that will make those winter nights feel so much warmer.
Oak beams above a wood-burning stove
As the nights draw in and the temperatures begin to drop, there’s nothing nicer than snuggling up in front of a flickering fire. OK, so it’s only mid-August, but before you know it, September will be upon us and autumn will be in full swing.
Wood-burning stoves without oak beams are like having a hot chocolate without marshmallows. It still keeps you warm on a cold winter’s night but it doesn’t make you feel like you’re enjoying a real treat.
Oak fireplace beams complete the look and help to create the illusion that your fireplace has been there for many years, even if you only installed it yesterday. Fireplaces without oak beams can look empty, especially when the fire isn’t lit.
Plus, the natural warm wood of oak fireplace beams in a room adds a homely feel that modern manmade materials simply can’t replicate.
Oak beams to display your seasonal decorations
There’s nothing more homely than seasonal decorations. And we don’t just mean a bit of Christmas sparkle, either (although we have to say that oak beams do look rather wonderful draped with a little faux ivy at Christmas time).
No matter what the season, oak beams are the perfect place to create a fabulous display to make your home sing. In summer, think flowers and bright-coloured bunting. In Spring, celebrate the season by adorning oak beams with painted eggs and vases filled with daffodils and tulips.
When it’s too warm to light the fire but too cold to sit outside, cheer up your living space by hanging fairy lights over oak mantels.
The only limit is your imagination!
