Our top 5 ‘must haves’ for your living room
by Freddie Armstrong

No living room is complete without our top 5 ‘must have’ items.
Whether you’ve decided to give your lounge a complete makeover in time for Christmas or you just fancy a little change, we’ll take a look at how everything from oak beams to simple shelves could complete the look.
1) Oak fireplace beams
Our number one ‘must have’ item for your living room is an oak fireplace mantel.
As a fireplace is often the focal point of your sitting room, it’s essential that you frame it correctly. An oak beam above a fireplace opening is a simple way to add that much sought-after character into your lounge. Moreover, it is also a great place to display your seasonal decorations, whether it’s spring, bonfire night or Valentine’s Day.
Plus, as oak is a tough and durable wood, you know that by opting for an oak fireplace beam, you will be investing in something that will last for a long, long time.
2) Make sure your hearth is beautiful and practical
As well as adding an oak beam to your living room, having a fireplace hearth worth looking at, is also crucial.
After all, when you are sitting in front of your log burning stove on a dark autumnal evening, you are going to want to be looking at a hearth that looks the part.
3) A wood burning stove
At number three on our list is a wood burning stove.
While an open fire can be beautiful, a wood burning stove is much more energy efficient and can keep you much warmer on a cold winter’s night.
4) Oak floating shelves
It’s not just oak fireplace beams that you can use to add a splash of character into your sitting room. Oak floating shelves have made it to fourth place on our list because not only do they look good, they are pretty darn useful, too.
Clear the clutter from your coffee table by making little piles of strategically placed books and magazines amongst photo frames and plants on your oak floating shelves.
5) Oak flooring
OK, we’re not going to lie, this is a slightly larger job than just putting up an oak beam. However, we think oak flooring is really worth the extra effort.
Oak is a great material for your floor as it is really hard-wearing and can withstand many feet walking on it. Not only that, it can also help to add a real feeling of warmth to your living room.
Makeover your living room with our 5 ‘must haves’
It doesn’t take much to revive your living room and make it somewhere that you want to spend time relaxing in, once again. With just five simple changes, you could have your lounge feeling like new in no time at all.
