Get your oak mantel ready for autumn
by Freddie Armstrong

With the nights drawing in and the trees beginning to lose their leaves, now is the perfect time to get your oak mantel ready for autumn. Of course, if you still haven’t got around to buying an oak mantel for your fireplace, you’re not too late to get it in time to try out some of our seasonal style tips. So without further ado, here are some of our favourite ways to style your mantel this autumn.
Gourds, gourds and more gourds
We can’t get enough of these decorative little squashes. Whether you place a few of them between other seasonal decs on your oak mantel or make a gourd-only display, they’re simply the best way to bring a little bit of autumnal joy into your home.
Available in a wide range of shapes and sizes and a pleasing array of autumnal shades, your imagination is the only limit when it comes to using gourds to decorate mantel.
If you have squashes that are too large to fit on your oak mantel, or you have simply bought more than you could possibly fit on your oak mantel (they are so beautiful, after all), you can also extend your gourd arrangement to your fireplace and even (as long as you’re not lighting it!) on top of your wood-burning stove, too.
Spectacularly spooky oak mantels
Prepare your home for some serious Halloween fun by decorating your oak mantel for the spookiest day of the year.
Whether you want to go all out with spider webs and skeleton bunting or see Halloween as a more classy affair with candles and pumpkins, your oak mantel is the perfect focal point to centre your decorations around.
For an elegant but effective look, place black candles in clear glass holders of different shapes and sizes in-between your gourds.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, add black bunting covered in fake spiders’ webs. You could even stick some googly eyes (readily available from your local craft shop) on your gourds. Depending where you place them, they can actually look surprisingly sinister!
Use artificial autumn leaves to make a seasonal display on your oak mantel
Think of oak mantels as blank canvases for your artistic installation. OK, so we’re not all as creative as Jackson Pollock, but that doesn’t mean we can’t create some pretty impressive displays on our oak mantels.
Artificial autumn leaves can be used to create a really lovely autumnal display on your oak mantel. Scatter them between your other decorations or string them together to create leaf bunting. Again, your imagination is the only limit!
