3 Effortless Ways To Create A Fantastic Floating Shelf Display
by Freddie Armstrong

Oak shelves are a really simple but effective way to create a stunning, eye-catching focal point in your living space, without breaking the bank.
Simple to install and made from strong, natural wood, putting up oak shelves in your home is one of those projects which is both practical and stylish. If you’re looking for some inspiration for how to add natural oak shelves into your living space, we’ve got 3 ideas to help get you started.
1. Use varying heights of your oak shelves to fashion a unique look
By installing each oak floating shelf at a different height, you can create an impressive display which will attract the eye of anyone entering the room. Whether you want to add extra storage space to your kitchen or make somewhere to display your family photos in your living room, ensuring that you install each oak shelf at the appropriate height for whatever you want to place on them is important.
For example, in a kitchen, you might want to display stacks of plates and your favourite cocktail glasses. Take the maximum height of your tallest item and make sure at least one shelf has this much space above it. Simple, but easily overlooked!
If you want to add hooks underneath for mugs, make sure you have enough space below so the cups don’t get in your way when you’re making your favourite meal.
2. ‘Layer’ the items on your oak shelf
Make your oak shelf a real work of art by carefully positioning your display items. Rather than putting everything in a line along the shelf, consider using a layering method to make your oak shelves more visually appealing.
You could put a tall vase behind a smaller plant which hangs over the front of the shelf.
For an even more impressive effect, consider layering different textures too. For example, contrast a shiny metallic candle holder with a rustic photo frame. Think about how your materials are going to contrast with the oak shelf, too. If you go for a rustic-effect oak shelf, you could add interest by displaying a small selection of more contemporary, sleek items on it.
3. Add some gorgeous greenery
Adding a plant or two to your oak floating shelves is a really simple way to completely change the look of your room.
Not only can plants in the home help us to feel chilled and relaxed, but placed on an oak floating shelf, they also beautifully complement the natural wood.
Again, a range of different textures and heights of plants can make your oak shelves really stand out. Go for a pot plant with leaves that will hang over one oak shelf, contrasted with a more upright plant on another.
When it comes to creating an oak shelf display, your imagination is the only limit! As always, send us in some photos of your creations – we’d love to see what you’ve done.
