5 Ways To Create Impressive Displays With Floating Shelves
by Freddie Armstrong

Spring has well and truly sprung and the warmer weather is on its way. It’s during this season that many of us think about freshening up our homes. Installing floating shelves is one of the ways that we can do just that.
Investing in a few good quality rustic floating shelves and arranging them in a stunning display, is an inexpensive and surprisingly effective way to spruce up your home. We’ve come up with a few ideas to get you started and the best thing is, they’ll work in a wide range of homes, whether yours is modern or more traditional.
1. Create a ‘column’ of floating shelves
By fixing your floating shelves one on top of the other (with a gap in between), you are not only creating a space to put family photos, but you could also be helping to make your room feel more spacious. Yes, it may seem counterintuitive, but adding shelves to a ‘feature’ wall actually helps to make your room feel bigger, as you can use them to display your knick knacks in creative ways, rather than on your other surfaces.
An odd number of shelves works better than an even number. We think three floating shelves in a column works really well.
2. Asymmetry is amazing
When it comes to floating shelves, fixing them in asymmetrical patterns on your wall can create a feeling of effortless chic. To complete the look, display items in odd numbers – so three mini flower vases or five candle holders, for example.
3. Use your shelves to ‘colour pop’
Rustic floating shelves act as a great surface to display items of a colour that will ‘pop’ out of your wall. If you’ve got a blue wall, for example, try some warm pink flowers in small white vases. If you’ve got a white wall, rustic floating shelves give you the opportunity to add some colour and warmth into your room.
4. Goodbye kitchen cabinets
Kitchen cabinets can make a kitchen feel claustrophobic and enclosed. By replacing some (or all) of your kitchen cabinets with floating shelves, you can help to make your kitchen feel more light and airy, at the same time as making your plates more easily accessible!
5. Liven up your fireplace
Rustic floating shelves look great when placed either side of your fireplace. Complement the natural wood of the shelves by displaying plants on top of them. This is also a super way to bring the spring inside your home. You could even make flower displays to suit the season. Rustic floating shelves work particularly well when fixed on walls next to an oak fireplace beam.
These are just some of the ways that you can create impressive displays with floating shelves. Natural wood floating shelves, in particular, are extremely versatile and make a wonderful addition to any home.
