Our solid oak floating shelves are handcrafted from the finest quality kiln dried European oak timber.
The standard depths we supply are 6, 8 and 10″ and the thickness finishes around 32mm thick. As with our fireplace beams we’re offering a large variety of colour options. We use only the finest wax polish’s and oils on our oak floating shelf which ensures a top notch finish every time.
Each solid oak floating shelf is mounted using Hafele’s concealed shelf supports which come free with your order and are suitable for fixing to stone, brick, breeze block and stud walls. You can also fix them into plasterbroard walls if timber studs can be located and fixed into.
Professionally machined holes are drilled in the back of the shelves to accept the concealed supports. Each shelf will also come with fitting instructions.
We aim to manufacture our solid oak floating shelves to the highest possible standard. In order to minimise waste, we may manufacture floating shelves from two or more pieces of timber to create the required depth. By following strict industry standard techniques, this does not detract from the overall quality and actually results in further stability.

SUSTAINABILITY
We always use oak sourced from sustainably managed forests who are FSC or PEFC certified. We also plant 1 tree for every £50 spent with us. For our oak shelves, this equates to planting on average 135 trees for every 1 used.
CRACKS & MOVEMENT
Our solid oak floating shelves are handcrafted from the finest quality kiln dried European oak ensuring stability in your home. We have a couple of air dried oak shelves in our range for a further rustic appearance, these are well air dried ensuring minimal movement once installed in your home. If you fit the shelves near a heat source (such as above a radiator) some movement may be expected. Some shelves may have fine cracks which may be filled with filler before the final coat of stain and wax is applied depending on their size.
OTHER DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Oak is a natural product, therefor knots, colour, grain pattern and other distinguishing features can vary. Each shelf is completely unique!
SIZE TOLERANCE
We work to a tolerance of +/- 5mm. If you need a length smaller than a standard size, please order the next length up and leave a note in checkout to cut it down. Please note, this will make the item non-returnable. Need something more bespoke? Get in touch for a quote.
WEIGHT TOLERANCE
Our solid wall fixings have the capacity to hold up to 35kg of weight between 2 fixings. This includes the weight of the shelf. Longer lengths come with more fixings. Our plasterboard fixings are suitable for plasterboard between 9-15mm thick - 2 fixings (2 T brackets and 4 Gripit fixings) can hold up to 20kg of weight including the weight of the shelf. This is a guide only - condition of the wall, shelf placement, weight distribution and shelf depth all affect the weight capacity.
Please note none of the above can be treated as defects.
Everything we manufacturer is professionally finished in-house using only the finest products. We achieve this fantastic range with wood stains which penetrate deep into the wood followed by a top coat of wax polish for protection.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee exact colour matches to existing furniture. Please use these colour samples as a guide only, as oak is a natural product colour variation can be expected.
The following swatch provides a great example of how unfinished oak can vary in colour.
To order a bespoke length, please order the next length up and leave a note in checkout to cut down to your required length. For more bespoke alterations please send us a message and we will be happy to provide and accurate quote. Bespoke request will make the item non-returnable.
Yes all of our shelves come with fixings for either solid masonry walls or plasterboard walls depending on the product you select. We have products made especially for pasteboard walls so if you are fixings solely into plasterboard walls please make sure the product says "for plasterboard walls" in the title.
For shelves suitable for solid walls, as a general rule, 2 fixings can hold up to 35kg of weight including the weight of the shelf. Our plasterboard walls can hold up to 20kg between 2 fixings including the weight of the shelf. Shelf depth, wall type, condition of wall and distribution of items can affect the weigh capacity.
The amount of fixings your shelf will have will depend on the length chosen.
Shelves under 4ft will come with 2 fixing points.
Shelves 4ft-5ft will come with 3 fixing points.
Shelves 5.5ft-6ft will come with 4 fixing points.
Shelves 6.5-7.5ft will come with 5 fixing points.
Fixings are usually around 5" from each end and then any subsequent fixings evenly spaced between. (This is not guaranteed) If you need to make sure the fixings are in a suitable position to enable you to fit to timber studs, please get in touch and we will be happy to adjust fixing positions on your order.
