Structural oak beams are one of the oldest and most traditional building materials around. People still use them frequently in both restorations as well as new builds. Traditional Beams are one of the few suppliers holding large stocks of air dried structural oak beams in the UK.
Our structural oak beams are typically air dried for 1-3 years making them perfect for both internal and external use. 1-3 year air dried oak beams benefits from being suitable dry but without excessive distortion or insect damage which you can find on very dry oak timber.
Rough Sawn timber is a brilliant option for the DIY capable with appropriate tools allowing you to finish to your specific requirements whilst saving money. Rough sawn timber is timber cut to a basic size on a circular saw. Edges and sides are not smooth. Rough sawn is usually the first stage to prepare the wood for further more accurate work.
Rough Sawn oak beams have a dark and weathered appearance resulting from years of exposure to the elements. The colour can vary depending on where the beam is positioned in the pack with lighter beams coming from the middle of the pack. Once planed these beams will change colour significantly to a light oak.
